CBD OIL and sport

If you’ve trained seriously for any sport, you know how the intensity of training can place an enormous level of stress on the body. Now imagine being a professional athlete, where you’re constantly pushing your body to its peak. It impacts your muscles. It creates pain. It also affects your immune system. Today many pro athletes have found CBD supplements beneficial for keeping their bodies healthy and capable of performing at a high level

Derived from cannabis plants like hemp, CBD oil is a botanical extract that is naturally abundant in CBD. CBD, or cannabidiol, is an all-natural cannabinoid that interacts with our body’s endocannabinoid system, a regulatory network that keeps many of our functions in balance.

CBD is gaining more and more acceptance as a mild natural dietary supplement for athletes. Can CBD really be useful for those who leading an active lifestyle, improving their performance or protecting them against injuries? Everything suggests that the answer is yes.

The popularity of CBD among athletes has recently become a hot topic, largely due to the decision of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), announcing the official removal of cannabidiol from its prohibited substances list in 2018, allowing Olympic competitors to use it as a healing option. Athletes will still need to monitor their sources to remove any questionable products or risk suspension or disqualification from their events.

CBD OIl helps by Pain relief

The pre-clinical studies sponsored by the National Institutes of Health are also looking at the role of cannabis in relieving symptoms caused by:

  • arthritis
  • chronic pain
  • MS pain
  • muscle pain
  • spinal cord injuries

Research has shown that activating the CB2 receptor seems to be beneficial in managing chronic pain, which doesn’t often respond well to other therapies. Since CBD attaches to this specific receptor, it may be helpful in activating the pathways that ease the chronic pain, often associated with long-term or degenerative conditions such as fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, and diabetes.

Cannabinoids like CBD may also help alleviate pain by targeting and activating glycine receptors in the central nervous system. These receptors are located in various regions of the brain and spinal cord and play an important role in reducing chronic inflammatory pain and neuropathic pain. When inflammatory factors such as prostaglandins are present, they often shut down these receptors, which increases the sensation of pain, but CBD can reactivate these receptors and decrease pain hypersensitivity.
